What other places is there like the Abandoned Nuclear Power Plant? Me and my friend like to go do a bit of urban exploring, but the old nuclear power plant is all there is. Maybe Wigg Hill, but still thats only two. What about in SC? Any abandoned Military bases? lol. Thanks in advanced.

Maybe you could do some "urban archeology" at the library. Then you could learn about long-forgotten things like spelling and using the correct verb tense.
Just a suggestion.

;D P_lease forgive commonsense, they cant seem to adjust from the AOL *bash em* boards to the hometown board. But then your reply was none to nice either. "Turn the other cheek" so to speak. Now to your question. If you would drop by the Historical society at 301 south Johnson Street here in Gaffney they have put together a book and a map of some 800+ historical sites. There is of course the cowpens battlefield off highway eleven, Green River road, but, I think you would be very well served to try the book and the map.

It's pretty arrogant of you to apologize for me, don't you think? And for the record, I don't do AOL.
I have always had an issue regarding spelling and language usage in this medium. The *only* way we know what people are trying to say here is to read their words. When messages are so poorly written that it's not possible to understand the writer's meaning, something is very wrong.
And, like it or not, the truth is that poor spelling and bad usage look a lot like ignorance on the part of the writer. I doubt anyone really *wants* to look ignorant, you know?

Historical info wouldn't be of much use to an urban "infiltrater." They like to explore old, abandoned buildings, places that have been pretty much forgotten and left to rot. Like old abandoned asylums and the tunnels under colleges. It's much more fun in cities, where there's alot of urban decay...and sometimes, it's strangely beautiful. Here's some info: www.urbanexplorers.net/about.htmlHere's a site about NC...can you say "road trip!": www.angelfire.com/ex/abandoned/This is a link to a webring that lists LOTS of interesting sites: e.webring.com/hub?ring=draining

Can someoone give me directions to Whig Hill? I can't find it on a map, and my daddy won't tell me where it is because he doesn't really want me going up there (he had an experience there when he was a teenager that scared the pants off him and his friends)...sheesh, I'm 38 years old!

Whig hill is off hiway 18 south(union hiway) approx. 8=10 miles from Gaffney on the right. There is a historical marker on the side of the road, with the info about whig hill. A dirt road leads to it , but is blocked by a orange, steel gate. You have to walk down to the cemetary, which is about 1-2 miles off hiway 18. Hope this helps(be careful, I have heard of many strange things happening there . ....btw, ever heard of pinckneyville?

Well I find that really interesting and in my *younger* days I guess I could be considered an Urban Explorer. One of the places I found fascinating was a little room under the Thickety Creek Railroad trestle, among others but I still maintain that if you went to the Library and purchased the map of historic sites and places of which it list over 700* sites (and this is by no means all) you would undoubtedly find many Urban places to explore, not to mention that it has Whig Hill Cemetary listed as number 711. I am not sure in todays climate that I would be trying to *explore* college tunnels and old tunnels with power lines etc, as I might be taken for a terroist and shot LOL only kidding but I would say seriously "Be careful out there"

I hit the wrong button and posted too soon...
You're right about the historical maps. I wasn't thinking about there being older sites listed. I was thinking it would just have current places, you know, kind of like something for visiters to Gaffney...I think I just might head on out to the library!
I did find some directions for Whig Hill on the net, but couldn't check them out as I'm not in Gaffney right now. I'll print the ones you gave me, and next time I come for a visit, Daddy won't be able to stop me! Hahahahahahahahahaha (evil laugh) ;D
Maybe I can find it on the Terraserver. I love that site, I found my parents house, and quite a few thngs in different cities I've visited. It's interesting to see it from above. I know they're blurring the Pentagon, and other parts of Washington right now, thinking terrorists might use the info, and there are a few places you can't get to because they're classified for some reason, but most of the USA is open to see...I have to say, it's quite a thrill to find your own house there! (okay, yes, I am on the computer too much).
You're also right about being careful. If anyone is planning to go "exploring" be sure you're caught up on your shots, you always have a flash light and a phone (in case you need help) and know that if the security guards get you, you're on your own...
