I wonder how many older people read these boards. I just wondered if anyone thought that AARP is even worth joining. They surely have not given the pill companies cause to keep there prices down like they are in the rest of the world.
Just what good is AARP?

I'm only 43 Oldtimer, but I've had a lot of experience with dealing with issues facing older people through helping to care for my grandparents (they're 88 $ 89). My grandfather took out a fairly expensive heath coverage through them years ago for himself and my grandmother. It had all sorts of clauses and covered everything they offer I think (including longterm care). Like I said, it was expensive (a little over $200 a month for the both of them I believe), BUT when they reached the point that they were going to the hospital a lot, it was really a good thing to have because it DID pay ALL hospital costs that Medicare didn't as well as quite a few outpatient type things. They are now in a nursing home and because he took out the plan with the longterm care coverage, it is paying significantly toward that. Hope I might have helped. I assumed you were asking about their supplemental insurance. As far as just joining, paying the little dues and getting the monthly magazine, I don't know if that's any help or not.
