Hold on to your wallets, King Henry and his cronies are about to give the folks in the city the shaft again. A article in the local paper says they're pushing for a "pet fee", another word for tax. They want to charge a pet owner $25.00 a year, to own a dog, cat etc. Does this mean $25.00 for each gold fish, parakett, lizard and so on? I guess they need to find a way to pay for the taj mahal that King Henry has been wanting since his first day in office. Spartanburg tried the same thing a few months ago, and public outcry caused them to scrap it.(Anything Spartanburg does, Gaffney follows. Just hope Spartanburg doesnt legalize drugs) I am listing the city council members names and phone numbers for anyone wanting to complain. Since our council is there to serve their own needs, it is probably a waste of time to contact them. Billy Love and Wayne Ramsey have said they will NOT vote for this scam. But after all, they're republicans. Too bad the rest are tax and spend democrats. Mayor Henry Jolly 405 College Drive Gaffney, SC 29340 864 489-4638 Wayne Ramsey S. well, after living in NY State for so long I am used to having to purchase a dog license every year. But I agree $25.00 sounds quite much! For a *spayed* female we payed $6.00 a year, I think it is double for a female who is capable of having a litter. I seem to re call it is about the same on the males. But then again it seems that things here are WAY out of poportion to other parts of the country. BPW manager gets one heck of a salary and while I do not know what the city manager of say NYC gets I just feel that Mr. Hardin is probably right up there with him. And......They are talking about EXTENDING the mans contract? ?? ? whats that about??? Can the citizens of Gaffney sit back and let this happen?? Just as the Mayor and the rest of the city council have pushed through this *City Hall* I hope that the city folk are going to the town board meetings and giving them all a piece of their minds. Just remember who they are when the elections roll around again and *GET RID OF THEM!!* There has GOT to be someone else who is more concerned with the state of the city/county than these spend, spend, spend public officials. Put out a clarion call to all interested parties, lets find candidates to run against these people who will put the welfare of the people before a nice *cushy* office. Who will stay and back up their beliefs and face the public who voted for them instead of *running off on a vacation.* The footbal stadium " delay" is IMHO a *ploy*, I think they knew they had Overstepped the bounds on that one AND the new City Hall. But, it also proves the point that their interest is NOT for the welfare of Gaffney or Cherokee county. If that were the case it seems to me that they would have *Delayed* the city hall in deference to the Football stadium which would have been at the least a source of MORE revenue, whereas the city hall is just another drain.

Redneck, Good to hear from you again...I was gettin' worried cause I didn't see any of your messages for a while. Remember what I said about the car tax in Spartanburg County last year!!! Sounds like like the way things are going around the Peachoid, you might be paying $1000.00 a year for a '76 Chevy pickup. Take care buddy

Oops,
I mean't a Ford....(I hope you don't drive a Dodge, then I will have really got you upset) ---you remember what I said about Spartanburg Co. Car Plate Taxes last year
As far as Spartanburg, we had the "Great, Grand Opening of the new Marriott Hotel". Check out this past Sunday's newspaper want ads looking for people to work there. Looks like like they need a whole new crew. Low wages or bad managment?
Let's hope Gaffney doesn't follow Spartanburg...(even if I live in SPB).

Hi again Icebull....You can bet if Spartanburg leaders come up with a plan, these morons (politicians) in Cherokee County will follow suit. Seems these Bozos cant blow their nose unless Spartanburg does first. I am fed up with the stupidity shown by a bunch of self serving ^%$#heads, who claim to be pillars of the community. I wish everyone in the upstate of South Carolina knew exactly what goes on behind closed doors with these idiots. Gaffney and Cherokee County has been run by crooks for years. What I dont understand is how anyone with half a brain cell will still go out and vote for the same people over and over. Could it be a certain city councilman is blackmailing some of his tennants? I wont say anymore, but sooner or later, the facts will come out. I hope when they do, the state or federal government gets involved. The local investigators will have their hands tied or their jobs lost if they get involved. It has happened too many times in the past. Recently as a matter of fact.(remeber the ticket fixing scam, and a certain crooked city judge got out of it? I could tell a true story from experence about this &^%$) Too bad we cant vote for some good folks away from Cherokee County, who are not members of the Gaffney mafia and are not easily influenced by greed and power.

Hi Redneck,
Can't say much about Gaffney politics, as I haven't lived there for a few years, and I only see what's going on the message board or driving thru.
Regarding local politics, what's got me UPSET was seeing that big "FATZ" sign in front of the Peachoid. Who allowed that to happen? Is there a Zoning Board in Gaffney? Politics just aren't like they were when I was growing up.
I used to eat every now and then at FATZ (exit 95?)-good service and food, but I haven't gone into one, anywhere, since that sign was put up at the Peach. Gaffney doesn't have that much going for it, but atleast the Peachoid was it's claim to fame.
Have a good day. Icebull
P.S. When I'm driving I-85 at night, the Water Board could save some money by turnng the Peachoid spotlights off, since the the bright red FATZ sign makes it looks like it's over-ripened.

Wellllllll, I must say that the very first time I saw that humongous peach (and everytime there after) all I can think of it a BIG BUTT with Hemmorroids mooning Gaffney. Sorry folks but, that is the first thought I had. Now if a little more thought had gone into the *Positioning* of it, it might have made a world of difference. But much like the FATZ addendum planning does NOT seem to be in the vocabulary or the ability of the reigning powers that be. Please? Someone? come up with viable candidates to run for those offices? ?

Hi Hometowngirl,
My 12 year old son made a similar comment about what he thought the Peachoid looked like, only now the red FATZ sign makes it look sunburned.
Maybe Coppertone Suntan Products should put up a billboard next with a little dog on it and we can all make believe it's a surrealistic billboard out of the 1960's--only problem it should have been on I-95 on the way to Florida.
