Hey surfrgirl338! I am originally from Greenville, SC. I have some relatives that live here that helped me find a place. I was wondering what are some places to eat and interesting things to do. Thanks so much for responding!

Hey, depends on what you like to eat. Me? I prefer good ole downhome, mama's kitchen cooking and for me that would be......in Gaffney Norma's truck stop, out Limestone towards blacksburg past the hosp. over the thru way bridge on the right. out of Gaffney that would be Turner's restaurant in Chesnee SC, out hiway 11 turn left at the light in Chesnee and just before you go over the RR tracks it's on the left. Fan-tas-tic lunch. IMO of course. On the way to Chesnee there is a little restaurant that has really taken off in this area and it is called the Hi-Way Eleven Restaurant. It is really good and I know because it is like standing room only most nights with a line waiting to get in, especially Friday nights. Thickity Mt. Fish camp is on Metal Road. out the same hi way just before you get to that restaurant. Of course there is Ruby Tuesdays' and Applebys on Floyd Baker Blvd. and Ryan's. (i;m not a steak person and I don't think their veggies are that great either) I think they are like *instant* or canned. BLEH!!! Now for entertainment, wellllll, we are not real gad abouts so I will let others take over that activity. But, I do know there are a lot of complaints about *nothin to do* around here. Hope that helped

Hi Gooddad. Welcome to Gaffney! Surfrgirl, you are right about Hi-way 11 restaurant. Never had a meal there that wasn't just as ordered, and their salads are so fresh! Out of this world! But looks like you covered almost all restaurants..not sure if you mentioned Blue Bay, but we like that one as well as Thickety Mtn. Fish Camp! As for entertainment, I'm afraid you're right! There isn't much to do around town. There is one local theater on main street, with only one movie showing at a time, unfortunately, but I guess we can consider ourselves lucky to still at least have the one theater. That's about it. Gosh, I really can't think of anything but the library, if you enjoy reading! lol...That's pitiful! This town really does need more places of entertainment! Thankfully, Spartanburg is just down the road!

Hi GoodDad. I'm not going to be much help either. As I stated in another post, House of Pizza is a great place to eat. But entertainment and recreation wise-GOOD LUCK. I am originally from Gaffney and now live in Greenville, Powdersville to be exact. And I am sooo happy I have stuff to do here now. Always telling javamom and redneck (my mom and dad) they need to move here. Capri is about all I can think of also, and not much to that. And as Redneck says to me, there is always Harold's downtown. LOL Just KIDDING! Javamom's right, lucky to have Spartanburg down the road, but there isn't much there either. You're probably going to have to go back to your original neck-of-woods to find anything to do. Good luck finding ways to pass the time and if you find out anything new, please let me know!

Hi jacknjen, Welcome to the board, my, my, my! We are growing in hops and skips! I think the fact that your Mom and Dad still Flirt after 22 years is terrific! I know, you were just kidding. ;D You mentioned Harolds downtown? That place has really changed. I remember when it used to be down next to the Hamrick Theater and we were not allowed in the place but, on the occasion Dad would bring home hot dogs and chili burgers from there as a treat on a Saturday. They were soooooo good. Even after they moved up to the other end of main st. it was soooooo good but now when you go in their even the *good* smell is gone. The place had a distintive smell that I would have known anywhere in the world. But no longer, the reciepe has changed and it isn't as good as it used to be. The bluebird ice cream shop used to be on the other side of the theater. My mother loved the banana splits from there.

Now you're bringing back some memories! I remember going into the Bluebird when I was younger in search of teen magazines..Loved the ice cream there too! I miss those days..{{{sigh}}} The last time I was in there, the woman there mentioned some stray kittens that were abandoned by their mother and they had taken home. So I went to her house and "adopted" one of them..gosh..that was years ago! Wish that place was still open!

There's a nice restaurant on RT 29 on the way into Blacksburg, east of the bridge, that serves up fantastic steaks--someone help me out with the name. They have a GIANT Porterhouse that will feed 2. The steaks have always been perfectly cooked and the service is very attentive. Granted, the prices reflect the quality. The wine list has some bargains.
While I go for the beef, they also have a wide menu, including seafood and dishes appealing to children.

It's Kelly's. Found the name on another message thread. I may just have to groil up a steak thinking about that last Porterhouse!
Have a good day everyone.
