I really am not getting these attitudes that are being thrown around here on a perfectly good message board. (or at least what COULD be a perfectly good message *community* board)
Evidently the children who post these nonsensical posts have nothing better to do than come on and read what others post and then make their inane comments. I think it is sad
Why doesn't some one come forward, using their (1) one screen name and start a conversation. Make friends. enlarge your world. Learn to be tolerant of others. Recognize others differences and above all know what a terrible world this would be if we all thought and felt alike. Respect others differences and celebrate them. Quit with the name calling, nit picking and parsing peoples sentences. That is why no other people want to post, because of the ones who have nothing but negative things to say.
This is the sad part, one or two people can make it miserable for the majority and that is the way the rest of the world is going also. As a Majority of ONE (1) I say please *knock it off?* if you have nothing better to do than belittle others go to the AOL boards, there you can bash and be bashed back which is what you appear to want. Leave this little home town board and its occupants alone!

Seems you're missing the whole point of a message board. It works like this...people come on, read what others have posted, and post their comments...whether you consider them "inane" or not!
Your condescending remarks about their posts are just as irritating as their posts are to you...GET IT? I mean if you're so darn "miserable" then go elsewhere, don't read the posts, or take the time to tell us what YOUR idea of free speech is...

My idea of *free speech is...........................*

The ability to express the way you feel, formulate ideas and word them in such a way as to be understood by the general population. To use the english language to the best of ones ability in order to get your ideas across. Then for another person to come along, read what you have written and in a cogent, polite way express what they are feeling in regards to what you have posted without the need to be angry, belligerant, foul mouthed or insulting. Sometimes it is necessary to condescend when others come on and "attack" what you have said with out reading and COMPREHENDING what has been written. Reading comprehension was stressed as very important when I went to school. Today there have been many instances where it appears that people no longer know how to write, When referring to "woman found dead in Apartment" The head line read " women found dead in Apartment* implying *many* women instead it was one (1) woman. (big difference there) but as you can see it changes the whole tenor of the message. But what I am getting at here is that my idea of Free speech is being able to speak freely, what you feel and the right of others to do the same but do it with a modicum of knowledge of what the subject matter is. And, be sure you are replying to what has been said, NOT what you THINK you read.
By the way I have a life. But thank you for caring

Hometown girl, I READ and FULLY Comprehended your post to which I replied. Thanks for the english lesson, but as far as COMPREHENSION is concerned, tell me how a grammatical mistake in a newspaper headline has anything to do with our discussion of the free speech issue...JEEZ.
Your posts (and responses) are perfect examples of what you are preaching against. POINT IS...when you are CONDESCENDING to others, don't pregnant dog when you get the same directed toward you and your opinions.

God! I've actually been censored here it seems. The words "pregnant dog" were not mine. Theyn were inserted where i had used the word b***h. (thought a b* was a female dog..pregnant or not, but...). It wasn't even used in that context. It was used as a verb...as in to complain, nag, or go on inncessantly with some irritating....you get the picture.

I think the above answers your question as to what does the *headline* have to do with the discussion. IF you really comprehend the written language you will see what it has to do with it. Then on re-reading it maybe I make an obscure point. The *absolute* idea of free speech, while implied in my statement is that one should be able to do all of the above about anything one chooses to with out fear of another *attacking* them with profanity, and mean, nasty remarks.

I get it..it's just that you GOT IT WRONG! It does not imply that you shouldn't fear attack. If we were all guaranteed that our opinion would stand...without attack(which quite often is merely a statement by a person with an opposing viewpoint) there would be no arguments at all.
Opposing viewpoints can sometimes point out things that the speaker..or writer.. weren't even aware of themselves. Even you, hometown girl, make an effort to defend yourself, only to ADMIT (on re-reading your own post) that you made an "obscure" (to say the least) point. That's what's so great about these message boards!! Isn't it wonderful? Sometimes enlightenment is a long arduous process.
I used no profanity. If you felt as though you were "attacked" or that my remarks were mean and nasty, it's just because the ego bruises so easily my dear.

Yes, as we live and age the learning process goes on *hopefully*. the alternative to that scares the bejeesus out of me.
I think opposing view points are great, it is just the *snide* remarks and emphasis and attitudes that make the *learning* process so difficult for me. I can learn and have been taught many things but none of it has been by anyone that got my back up, my dander riled,
my panties in a wad, or my nose out of joint. When a person cannot make their point with out the sarcasm and ill feeling coming through their post, I totally shut down and school is out as far as I am concerned.
