Hello. My name is James J Gaffney. (No Lie.) I live in Upper Darby, PA, which is a suburb of Philadelphia. I'm fairly sure that I am a descendent of the Gaffney's that founded your city, but I can't be sure. You see, my grandfather passed away a few years ago and took all knowledge of the family's history with him. I have no source of information and wondering where I might find biographical info on the Gaffney family. Any help would be apreciated!

???In some convoluted way I think we are *under the stairs* relatives of this family. I know we are related through the Services. Hope this helps some? R.M. Gaffney was the grandson of Michael Gaffney who founded the town of Gaffney, and was the son of Dr. Joseph G. Gaffney. He was married to the former Miss Mary Ann Service, they had eight children. R.M. Gaffney served in the Conferate Army during the last part of the Civil War with the sixteen year old boys. Immediately after the close of the war he taught school for a few years. He was then appointed the first Railroad agent of the Southern Railway Company of Gaffney. He served on the first city councel of Gaffney and also served as Mayor of Gaffney. R.M Gaffney organized Granard Lodge #186 A.F.M. and served has the first Worshipful Master. He was elected four times as Worshipful Master and served for a total of seventeen years as Master of the lodge. The years were 1874 -1880, 1884 &1885, 1890 -1904 and 1908 -1910. He was also Past District Deputy Grand Master of the Order.
