Anyone know of any ghost roaming around this area? I have always heard Whig Hill, Limestone college, and the Thicketty creek bridge on hiway 18 south was haunted. Just wondered if anyone has ever seen any strange things going on around here. UFO's, bigfoot, etc.
The legend of Booger Jim. There are plenty of stories about him. One says he lives under the Broad River Bridge between Blacksburg and Gaffney because he was hung off of it by his crazed wife with a jumper cable. Another states that he lives on Lookout Point up on the cliff and will come after you if you stop under the cliff at night turn off your car get out and call for him. All of this is in Blacksburg SC.
Anyone else?

No, but a dowser (friend of my tree trimmer) came by & said there are 11 graves from 1864 to 1880 in my back yard in E. SPB County and they were sharecroppers. A couple of months ago, I tripped twice upstairs in the same place (could have been a carpet seam and a few brewsky's, of course ;D ;D), and one time I saw something moving in the dark near the same place where I tripped. That dowser marked 6 locations in the yard, and at one, I uncovered a headstone. I randomly hit 2 other marks with the pick axe and hit rock 3 inches down. After a few days, I re-covered over the stone. The rains we had washed the new dirt off and the stone re-appeared--yet an another reason to head out of town for a break. Anyone know of any old timers who are dowsers and know the history of East SPB to Glendale area? Does title insurance cover this kind of thing?

This is a site that tells of many "haunted" places in all the cities of South Carolina. There are a couple in Gaffney and several in Blacksburg. There are also several here in Greenville that I want to go check out. Anyone ever thought of starting up a "ghost hunt society" in the area? We took one of the Ghost tours in Charleston last year. I would highly suggest doing that. Although we didn't see any ghosts we got to hear some great stories and facts about Charleston's old historic buildings and if you're in it just for the scare... just the streets of Charleston on a cold night with no one around will send a chill up your spine. The Battery Carriage Inn in Charleston is supposedly haunted. My husband and I stopped and got information about the Inn and want to spend a night there sometime. Supposedly rooms 8 and 10 I BELIEVE are haunted. One by a "gentleman" ghost and another that seems to be the torso of a civil war soldier I think. Just a quick story that the tour leader told us... That night we went on the tour we sat in a cemetary as she told us that several years ago a couple of ladies were staying in one of those rooms and one was her birthday. They went to bed and a few minutes later the lady that had her birthday that day felt someone lay down beside her. It was supposedly that "gentleman" ghost. But as soon as "he" could tell she was scared he got up and walked out through a wall. (The site also describes this ghost.) But what was funny, earlier that evening (the night we took our tour) she was giving a tour and found out that a couple was on their honeymoon. It turns out the couple was staying in that same room and it was ALSO the new wife's birthday. The tour guide said that she was a little freaked out when she found out their room was "haunted". I have heard that there is a waiting list for 2 years for both rooms 8 and 10 though. But if you go to Charleston you can go into the hotels court yard and see the doors to the rooms. Even the courtyard is creepy. The tour includes many of the Charleston places on the site provided. Happy haunting! theshadowlands.net/places/southcarolina.htm

On this site it claims that John D. Long Lake in Union (where Susan Smith drowned her children) has been closed. Is this true??

Do you all also believe that there's a monster hiding in your closet?

Dr Bobby Moss from Blacksburg is considered one of the foremost authorities on Cherokee County History (he along with Dean Ross). Dr Moss has written several books about the history of Cherokee County and I am pretty sure that one of them is on Ghosts and Legends of Cherokee County.
I will call the library and try to find out... JR

Just called the library. The librarian told me that she did not know of a book by Bobby Moss about Cherokee County Ghosts. She did tell me that he had published some stories in one of the local newspapers.
I have read several books by Nancy Roberts and Nancy Rhynes that are about Ghosts and Legends in South Carolina. There is a couple of stories about Cherokee County. I remember the legend of Whig Hill. Most of the stories are about the low country. You might want to check out their books. Nancy Roberts has more published than Nancy Rhynes. JR

I agree. Nancy Roberts occasionally comes to the Cherokee County Library and does book signings. She has some really cool books about the Ghosts and Legends of SC!

I have heard many tales about Whig Hill too. But the only strange thing I have ever seen was many years ago at Pickneyville. I wont go into details, but some friends and myself saw something that I will never forget. It was an animal, but one neither of us had ever seen before. I will NEVER, as long as I live ,EVER go to Pickneyville again after dark. (Dont plan on going back at all!) BTW....This pic is NOT what we saw!

Redneck,

Maybe I should have posted at the top of the pic, that this is NOT what we saw. This happened almost 25 years ago. If you must know, the "thing" we saw was about 4 ft. tall, had the legs of a whooping crane, a body like a large duck, and a head like an owl. It ran in front of my car, and stopped, stared for a few seconds, then ran off in the other direction. We all looked at each other, and said "get the heck outta here"! Ever see a '74 Olds Cutlass going backwards at 60 mph? I have been back there during daylight a couple of times, but never after dark again. OK....go ahead with the laughs, accusation of drugs, or just call me a nut, but this is true, and I know 3 other people who were with me that night that will tell anyone the same thing. Who's to say there's not strange creatures down there that have yet to be discovered?
